Dreams of a New Old World
So, I have a new book out. Well, I say a new book, it's more of a collection of pieces from down the years. I wasn't actually sure whether to release this one at all if I'm honest. My first book was quite a traditional one. Many writers have begun their careers with a book of short stories. I'm really glad that my debut was on the same lines. This time however, I was a little conflicted. Dreams is not a conventional book by any stretch of the imagination. Part poetry, part prose, it is a mish-mash of ideas and thoughts from over the years. There is little conventional narrative structure or even chronology to it, rather, it is filled with fantasies of possible futures and pasts, utopian visions, and dystopian regrets. My next books are set to be quite traditional ones, based on well-worn formats and genres. So, given that fact, I thought I'd put it out regardless. I've always yearned to be an original, boundary-pushing author. Curiously, my tastes and ambitions have changed somewhat since I began writing, and now I am happy to work in traditional arenas, as opposed to my ideas as a younger man. Back then it was all about pushing the envelope and defying convention. So, in honour of my former self, here it is in all its abstract glory. Dreams of a New Old World. I do hope it's well-received, but my younger self will be secretly pleased if it's not.
